Femme Warriors!

Audacity in Thread: An Artist Statement

This piece serves as a vibrant, tactile manifesto on the strength and audacity required to simply exist. Through a lens of high-saturation color and unapologetic femininity, I explore the resilience of the femme identity. These figures are not just subjects; they are reminders of the power found in living loudly and visibly.

As the debut work on my custom-built, large-scale tufting frame, this project represents a significant evolution in my practice. The scale allows for a more immersive exploration of texture and form, transitioning from small-scale fiber art to a commanding, architectural presence. Each line is meticulously hand-tufted to create a dense, luxurious pile that will be hand-carved to perfection, adding a sculptural dimension to the 2D illustration.

Once completed, the piece will be mounted on wood, transforming the traditionally "soft" medium of tufting into a structural, permanent wall sculpture. This choice of mounting mirrors the theme of the work itself: taking the "softness" of the feminine experience and grounding it in a rigid, unyielding strength. It is a celebration of the bold, the bright, and the brave.
